First established as a trading outpost, Sematan of today is an idyllic beach town about 100km west of Kuching. It is also a gateway to locations around Southwest Sarawak. About an hour’s boat ride from here is the fishing village at Teluk Melano, an established homestay host community. This picturesque Malay fishing village is situated at the western tip of Sarawak. Pulau Talang-Talang Kecil, a part of the Talang-Satang National Park, is also located not too far off the coast of Sematan.
